Celebrating the life of

Lizzy James
Mathew

7 March 1962  –  9 October 2026

Please join us as we remember and give thanks for her life.

“But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep.”

1 Thessalonians 4:13–14

A Tribute to Our Beloved Sister Lizzy

It is with great sadness that we at Bethel IPC Chicago mourn dear Sister Lizzy, who has been a faithful member of this church from its beginning. But our hearts are filled with thanksgiving that she is in the presence of our dear Lord.

While she was able, Sister Lizzy was an integral part of every church service and meeting. Her talents in singing, organizing, and cooking were incredible. Along with James Mathew, her dear husband, she served Bethel IPC not for recognition but out of love, both for the Lord and the members.

As ALS slowly took her physical strength away, her inner strength increased, as she always used to quote from 2 Corinthians 4:16:

“So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.” 2 Corinthians 4:16

She set an example by being present at church almost every Sunday and worshiping the Lord with us. We will miss her deeply.

Our hearts ache because we will miss her voice, her presence, her love, but we also rejoice because the Scripture says to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Today she is experiencing the fullness of that joy. No more pain, no more sickness, only perfect joy in the presence of her Savior.

Till we meet again with our Lord, she will be lovingly remembered by Bethel IPC Church.
